The City of Greer’s $16 million Public Safety Training Center is now fully operational.
The center aims to support the training of police, fire and other public safety partners, both in Greer and across the Upstate. It includes a 50-yard, 10-lane indoor weapons range and a four-story fire tower designed for rappelling and confined space training.
“It’s not only gonna change the dynamics of public safety for the city, but also for other departments in the Upstate,” said Greer Mayor Rick Danner. “The ability to do the kind of training that all of those departments would like to do is going to be a big benefit to the region.”
The center was built on property that used to house a fire station and training tower. It contains a large seminar room, classroom space, breakout rooms and storage for emergency vehicles and equipment.
The facility aims to keep the local police and fire departments from having to travel long distances for specialized training. City officials say this will ultimately save money for Greer taxpayers and allow both departments to have access to an advanced training facility at home.
“The City of Greer has invested in a high-tech training center that will serve this community for decades to come,” said Greer Police Chief Matt Hamby. “Through vision and collaboration, Greer has built a facility that is unmatched in this region and will improve public safety across the Upstate.”
