Three District Five music ensembles are earning statewide recognition, after being selected to perform at the South Carolina Music Educators Association (SCMEA) Conference in February. The Abner Creek Middle School Chorus, Beech Springs Middle School Percussion Ensemble and Byrnes High School Wind Ensemble each earned a coveted spot at the annual conference, following a highly competitive and rigorous selection process.
The annual SCMEA Conference brings together music educators from across South Carolina for several days of professional learning, collaboration and performances. Being selected to perform gives student musicians the opportunity to showcase their talents in front of educators and peers from across the state, while representing their schools and District Five.
For the Abner Creek Middle School Chorus, the honor is particularly notable. Abner Creek was one of just three middle school choirs from across South Carolina selected to perform at this year's conference, placing the chorus among a small group of middle school programs chosen for the statewide stage.
The Beech Springs Middle School Percussion Ensemble earned its own distinction, selected to perform as the conference's featured chamber ensemble. The invitation will give Beech Springs students the opportunity to showcase the skill, precision and musicianship they have developed through the school's percussion program.
The Byrnes High School Wind Ensemble will also be featured at the conference, performing as part of a special session with Dr. Andy Pettus of Anderson University. The session will give music educators from across the state an opportunity to see the Byrnes musicians in action, while highlighting the talent and high level of musicianship within the school's band program.
