A downtown Greer coffee shop has expanded to a second location, offering customers a more outdoor-centered cafe as summer begins.

Flying Fox Coffee opened the doors to its new cafe earlier this month, taking over the former Scändi Tiny Coffee location at 301 Simply Less Cir. in Greer. The team hopes to encourage a more relaxed, outdoor-focused atmosphere for customers.

“We’re definitely leaning into the outdoor space, [which is] really a great spot for families and big groups,” said Jeremy Hartman, co-owner of Flying Fox Coffee. “[We’re] just really wanting people to be able to enjoy a little bit more quiet and a little bit more sunshine, which is a very different vibe than what we have downtown.”

The new location offers the same drinks and pastries as the downtown location, though it will not serve breakfast or lunch sandwiches. For the first time, the Flying Fox crew is offering a drive-thru for quick pickup orders.

The large outdoor space has covered seating, fire pits, cornhole, tetherball and hammock poles for patrons to enjoy. Inside, the seating area offers a more intimate space for individuals and small groups to sit by the fireplace and play board games. As the weather warms up, the crew also hopes to bring in more live music acts for customers.

“So far, we’ve just done some acoustic, but really, there’s no limit to what we want to do,” Hartman said. “If someone is willing to make it work, then we'll have just about any kind of music playing out here.”

Flying Fox was founded in Greenville as a mobile coffee stand before establishing its first permanent location in 2022. Since 2024, the cafe has run out of a downtown storefront on Greer’s Trade Street. While the expansion was unexpected, Hartman says that the team has always loved the space at Scändi Tiny and knew they had to take the opportunity.

“It’s not something we even expected — to expand into this space — but we did have a good relationship with the previous owners of the coffee shop here, and they were ready to retire,” Hartman said. “They’ve already built such a solid foundation, so it was almost too good to pass up.”

Moving forward, Hartman says the team is focusing on learning to roast its coffee beans in-house while also looking into future expansions.

“It’s just been very steady, natural growth, which is exactly where we want to be,” he said.

The new Flying Fox Coffee location is at 301 Simply Less Cir. in Greer. Both locations are open every day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, visit https://www.flyingfoxcoffee.com/
