A coalition of Greenville’s leading food security organizations has come together to help ensure that children across the county have access to nutritious meals throughout the summer.
Through the Summer Break Café program, as well as a partnership between Feed & Seed Co., LiveWell Greenville and Loaves & Fishes, children are receiving free breakfasts, lunches and fresh produce boxes. The program, administered by the South Carolina Department of Education and funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, launched its 2026 summer meal service in late May, providing free meals to all children 18 and under.
To build on this service, Feed & Seed Co. and LiveWell Greenville have so far donated more than 300 boxes of fresh, locally sourced produce for distribution at Summer Break Café locations. Loaves & Fishes is supporting the effort by delivering the produce boxes directly to meal sites, ensuring that children receive both a nutritious meal on-site and fresh fruits and vegetables to take home.
“Access to healthy food shouldn’t stop when school lets out,” said Nathaniel McCrary, Director of Operations for Loaves & Fishes. “We are working together to make sure children across Greenville have the nourishment they need to thrive all summer long.”
Families visiting Summer Break CafĂ© locations receive a free breakfast or lunch for every child 18 and under, as well as a box of fresh, seasonal produce while supplies last. Food is given out Monday through Thursday at participating sites throughout Greenville County through July 30, 2026.Â
“Pairing Summer Break Cafe with a box of fresh, locally grown produce offerings helps ease the financial strain many families face during the summer months. The free produce boxes give families access to healthy fruits and vegetables while supporting local farmers and strengthening Greenville's local food system,” said Mary Hipp, Board Chair of Feed & Seed.
Executive Director of LiveWell Greenville, Sally Wills, adds, “No single organization can solve food insecurity alone. This partnership with Loaves & Fishes and Feed & Seed Co. is an example of what Greenville nonprofits do best: we see the need and come together to fill in gaps."
Hours and offerings vary by location, and families are encouraged to review full details before visiting.
