GCS Board 10/29/25

Greenville County School Board Livestream, Oct. 28, 2025

The Greenville County Schools Board of Trustees authorized the start of a comprehensive impact fee study for the district. The authorization came at the Board’s regular meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 28.

Impact fees are a one time fee imposed on new developments by the local government in order to offset infrastructure costs. For the school system, the money helps cover the cost of expansions, new classrooms and other infrastructure needed as a result of population growth.

According to the Municipal Association of South Carolina, conducting a formal impact fee study is a legally-required first step to imposing impact fees. The Greenville County School Board selected consulting firm TischlerBise to conduct the study.

Also at Tuesday’s meeting, the Board approved a revision of Board Policy BCBA: “Livestreaming of Board Meetings.” According to documentation provided by the Board, this revision outlines the District’s livestream policy as related to accessibility requirements, obligations if there is a disruption in the stream and the penalties for noncompliance with the South Carolina Freedom of Information Act.

There was also a revision of Board Policy GBBA: “Unencumbered Time.” This revision states that the District will give unencumbered time to school nurses for 30 minutes daily. Unencumbered time is a time for self-guided work, free from any assigned duties or student supervision.

The Board also voted unanimously to nominate ScanSource, Inc. for the South Carolina School Boards Association Champions for Public Education. Additionally, the Board approved various honors courses to be conducted in the District. These courses include the following:

  •         Cosmetology 3 Honors

  •         Cosmetology 4 Honors

  •         Early Childhood Education 1 Honors

  •         Law Enforcement Services 2 Honors

  •         Machine Tools 3 Honors

  •         Machine Tools 4 Honors
