Greenville County Schools Board of Trustees, Feb. 24, 2026 livestream

The Greenville County Schools Board of Trustees honored several district employees at its Tuesday night meeting.

The Board met for its first regular meeting since 2025, with January’s meeting having been canceled due to winter weather. Several members of the Board, as well as school employees, were recognized for their work in the district.

Board member Michelle Goodwin-Calwile was honored for 10 years of service on the Board, and member Lynda Leventis-Wells was honored for 20 years. Both women received a pin and a certificate of appreciation.

Additionally, District Superintendent Burke Royster acknowledged new school leaders. These individuals were approved to assume their positions at a Board of Trustees special called meeting in January. Here is a look at these individuals and their new positions:

  • Golden Strip Career Center Director: Treva Lee
  • Northwood Middle School Principal: Michelle Michael
  • Hillcrest High School Principal: April Reese
  • Lakeview Middle School Principal: Towers Rice
  • Simpsonville Elementary School Principal: Holly Rollison

Following special recognitions, the Board approved all three of its action items on Tuesday evening.

The first item was a revision of Board Policy IA: Artificial Intelligence and Student Device Use. An ad hoc committee was formed to write these proposed revisions, which suggested the following changes:

  • Acknowledging that AI can be used as an educational tool for student learning without replacing teaching
  • Emphasizing that student privacy and security must be protected when using AI
  • Recognizing that AI must be used in an ethical manner that is accessible to students

The policy also has language requiring AI usage to be transparent and understandable to parents, and requires school administration to develop consistent procedures pertaining to student use of AI.

The Trustees also approved a sanitary sewer easement at the central office, as requested by the city of Greenville. Finally, the Board approved a list of innovative and honors courses for the district.
