Greenville County Schools is honoring the life of Betty Farr, a 2023 GCS Hall of Fame inductee and 1951 graduate of Greenville High School who died last week.
Farr was a well-known figure in the community, having worked as a philanthropist and business owner. She died at the age of 92. The District notes Farr as someone who committed her life to positively impacting those around her.
Farr started her own business, Betty's School of Dance, and was a renowned storyteller across the state. She became CEO of Greenco after her husband’s passing, and served on many nonprofit Board of Directors.
Additionally, Farr received numerous awards in her life, including the Order of the Palmetto in 2003. Grandma Betty’s Farm at the Children’s Museum of the Upstate and the Betty & Judd Farr Music Garden at Unity Park are both named in her honor.
“Betty Farr was a strong supporter of Greenville County Schools and public education,” says Greenville County Schools Superintendent Burke Royster. “Her numerous contributions to our community have greatly benefitted generations of young people throughout our community and will continue to do so for many years to come.”
