Greer Idol and Greer Idol Jr auditions set for April 7

Greer residents have one day left to sign up for Greer Idol and Greer Idol Jr auditions, hosted by the Greer Cultural Arts Council.

Greer Idol and Greer Idol Jr give residents the opportunity to perform live in a summer singing competition. Auditions for the series will be held tomorrow, April 7, at the Edward R. Driggers City of Greer Center for the Arts (804 Trade St).

Interested residents must sign up for an audition slot, which can be done online. Both Greer Idol and Greer Idol Jr have a limited number of slots available, and the adult competition is nearly full as of publication. Cultural Arts staff encourage local young people to consider participating in the Greer Idol Jr competition, meant for children ages 12-17.

“The Greer Idol Jr. competition highlights the wonderful local school-age talent we have in this area,” said Robin Byouk, Cultural Arts Supervisor for the City of Greer. “It gives the young contestants a unique experience performing in front of a live audience.”

Greer Idol Jr auditions will be held from 6-7 p.m. on Tuesday, and Greer Idol auditions will follow immediately after from 7-8 p.m. Contestants should prepare two songs from different genres to be performed acapella for 30 seconds each.

Program officials note that the age restrictions have changed for the 2026 competition. Greer Idol contestants must be 18 years old by Jan. 1, 2026, and Greer Idol Jr. contestants must be between the ages of 12 and 17 as of Jan. 1, 2026. All contestants must show proof of age with a driver’s license or a birth certificate to audition, and anyone over the age of 16 will have to pass a background check.

Contestants who move forward from the auditions will then compete in a series of contests where they will face elimination. These contests will be held during the Tunes in the Park music series at Greer City Park throughout the summer.
