The City of Greer is suspending its Flock Safety camera system for the next 90 days.

The suspension took effect on Friday, Aug. 21. The decision to suspend the technology comes one month after two officers with the Greer Police Department were terminated for the misuse of license plate readers.

“Public trust and public safety are of paramount importance in the City of Greer,” said Greer City Administrator Andrew Merriman. “During the 90-day suspension of the Flock Safety camera system, we will conduct a data-driven analysis of the tool’s effectiveness, evaluate our training and implementation systems and weigh privacy concerns with the benefit of using this technology to protect life and property in the City of Greer.”
