The Greer Commission of Public Works (Greer CPW) will soon host its annual Lake Robinson Day celebration, featuring educational exhibits, outdoor recreation and kids’ activities.
This year’s Lake Robinson Day will be held Saturday, Oct. 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lake Robinson (2544 Mays Bridge Rd.). According to Greer CPW officials, the free event aims to educate the public about the importance of the city’s natural resources.
“This is Greer CPW's fifth annual Lake Robinson Day, although the event was held by the Friends of Lake Robinson for many, many years,” said Greer CPW Public Information Coordinator Alison Rauch. “And the purpose of Lake Robinson Day is to educate the public about where their drinking water comes from in Greer.”
The event will feature more than 20 educational exhibitors, including several City of Greer departments. Activities will include bounce houses and obstacle courses for children, along with kayaking on a first-come, first-served basis.
Rauch said reducing waste is another important part of the celebration. Organizers aim to minimize the event’s environmental impact through composting and recycling.
“Large-scale events like this can really create a lot of waste, so all of our food waste and our utensils from lunch will be either composted or recycled,” Rauch said. “At the end of the day, it will be almost like we were never even there. Our footprint will be very minimal.”
Lake Robinson Day will also offer opportunities for attendees to give back to the community. There will be a blood drive hosted by The Blood Connection, with attendees encouraged to register online in advance. A canned food and household supply drive will also benefit Greer Relief, continuing an effort that began following Hurricane Helene in 2024.
“We’d had a hard few weeks trying to get through Helene, and Greer Relief was still spinning their wheels trying to help people recover. So we invited them to set up a table to collect canned food items and household items,” Rauch said. “We’ve invited them to come back year after year, just to encourage the community to help Greer Relief restock their pantries and help our neighbors.”
Requested items for donation include pasta, pasta sauce, canned fruits, vegetables and beans, peanut butter, toilet paper, laundry detergent, body wash, dish soap, household cleaners and toothpaste.
