The City of Greer’s annual Railfest celebration is set for this Saturday, featuring kids’ activities, food vendors and live music acts.
This year’s Railfest will be held at Greer City Park on Saturday, Sept. 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event, now in its 11th year, aims to highlight railroad safety and the history of the railroad in Greer.
“The railroad gave life to Greer, and the city has grown up alongside it,” said Michelle Willis, Communications Director with the city. “Today, Greer is a hub of international commerce largely due to our rail-supported inland port. In our sesquicentennial year, it’s important for us to celebrate the role trains have played in our city’s history and utilize Railfest to help educate the community on how to stay safe along the tracks that have been a driver of our city’s growth since the very beginning.”
The event will feature two live music performances — Swamp Rabbit Bluegrass from 10 a.m. to noon, and West End Strings from noon to 2 p.m. There will also be several local train organizations and community partners with educational booths.
