Spartanburg County is expanding its commitment to workforce development by launching its 2026 Summer Internship Program, providing paid, hands-on opportunities for high school and college students across a wide range of career fields.
Building on the success of its inaugural year, the county has pledged to bring on 100 summer interns for the 2026 program. Students will have the opportunity to gain real-world experience, develop professional skills and explore potential career paths in public service.
The eight-week program will run June 1 through July 31, 2026, and interns will earn $12 per hour. Positions will be available in at least 14 different County departments, offering a diverse selection of experiences in areas such as administration, public safety, infrastructure, community services and more.
The program is offered in partnership with OneSpartanburg, Inc. and the Spartanburg Academic Movement, reflecting a shared commitment to preparing local students for future careers while strengthening the region’s talent pipeline.
The 2025 pilot program demonstrated the value of the initiative, resulting in several interns transitioning into full-time and part-time roles with the county. Beyond employment outcomes, participants gained confidence, built professional networks and developed important workplace skills.
Students are encouraged to apply and take advantage of this opportunity to gain meaningful experience while making a difference in their community.
