In preparation for the 2026-27 school year, Spartanburg District Five has announced two new school administrators, following unanimous approval by its Board of Trustees.

A new face will be joining the Spartanburg District Five family next school year, as Chad Maguire has been selected as the next Principal of Beech Springs Middle School. Maguire brings nearly three decades of experience in education.

“I’m so grateful for this opportunity,” Maguire said. “Spartanburg District Five has such a great reputation for its family feel, and I’m excited to be a part of it.”

Maguire comes from Sevier Middle School in Greenville County, where he’s served as Principal since 2017. Under his leadership, Sevier has seen remarkable academic growth, earning an “Excellent” rating on the 2025 SC State Report Card and recognition as a Gold High Performing School. Additionally, Maguire helped improve staff retention rates, with teacher turnover rates as low as 2% to 4% each year.

Prior to his role as principal, Maguire served as an assistant principal at both Woodmont Middle School and Lakeview Middle School, also in Greenville County. He began his career in the classroom as a middle school math teacher in North Carolina. Maguire earned his Bachelors in Elementary Education from Bowling Green State University, and has a Masters in Middle Level Education and in Educational Leadership, both from Winthrop University.

“Beech Springs has a solid foundation that has already been built and has so much potential. I’m excited to continue that momentum and build Beech into the school everyone wants to be at,” Maguire said.

In addition to Maguire, a familiar face will be stepping into school leadership, as Jessica Amsler has been selected as the new Assistant Principal of Lyman Elementary School.

Amsler brings 16 years of experience in elementary education. She currently serves as a 4K teacher at Lyman, where she has been since 2023, and was recently named Lyman Elementary School’s 2026–2027 Teacher of the Year.

“I’ve loved being a part of the Lyman Elementary School family over the last three years and getting the chance to build great relationships with students over that time,” Amsler said. “Now I’m looking forward to building those same relationships with our parents and the entire school community.”

Prior to District Five, Amsler taught first and third grade in a neighboring Spartanburg County district, working with colleagues to strengthen instruction and plan schoolwide initiatives. She earned her Bachelors in Special Education, along with a Masters in Applied Learning and Instruction, with a focus on literacy, at USC Upstate. She is currently pursuing her Masters in School Administration from Gardner-Webb University.

“As a teacher, I’ve enjoyed watching students grow over the years,” Amsler said. “Now I’m excited about the chance to watch teachers grow.”

Maguire and Amsler will begin their new roles on July 1.
