A $200 million bond referendum for Spartanburg District Five Schools was passed on Tuesday Night, following the Nov. 4 General Election.
GreerNews previously reported on the decision to bring this referendum to voters back in early August. The referendum passed, having about 80% total “yes” votes at the time of reporting.
“We are very excited our referendum has passed, and truly thankful for the overwhelming support of our District Five community,” said District Five Superintendent Randall Gary. “This vote is a reflection of the trust our families and community members have in our schools and our districts.”
He continued: “We’re excited to move forward with these projects, knowing we’re investing in the future of District Five students for generations to come.”
The funds from the bond will be used in part to construct a new middle school on the southern side of the district. Other projects to be completed under the bond include the reconstruction of Duncan Elementary School of the Arts and Byrnes Freshman Academy. Architects for the projects were selected at the Aug. 25 school board meeting.
More information on the referendum can be found on the district’s website. GreerNews will report project updates as they become available.
