Early in 2025, Greenville County experienced 30 reported shootings including one that claimed the life of a 5-year-old child. The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office decided it was time to take immediate and decisive action
In response, the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office launched a Violent Crimes Task Force, bringing together manpower and resources from every division within the agency. This coordinated effort focused on targeting violent offenders, removing illegal firearms from streets and disrupting criminal activity in the community.
The Task Force’s work led to a reduction in shootings and the following outcomes:
-January 1 – May 15: 30 shootings
-May 16 – August 10: 13 shootings (down 56%)
-Firearms Seized: 30 (5 reported stolen)
-Cocaine/Crack: 44.5g
-Fentanyl: 53g
-Methamphetamine: 186g
-Marijuana: 7.2 pounds
-Pills: 204
-Ecstasy: 4.2g
-Drug-Trafficking Cash Seized: $15,552
“The men and women of the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office remain committed to fighting violent crime, holding offenders accountable, and ensuring that families across Greenville County can feel safe in their homes and neighborhoods,” said Sheriff Hobart Lewis. “It is my hope that through initiatives like this, our community will feel safer and confident knowing that the men and women who wear the badge are doing everything in our power to protect them.”
