Spartanburg District Five Schools is announcing a change to its 2025–2026 school year calendar to recover instructional time missed earlier this semester due to winter weather.
Friday, March 6 will now be a makeup day for all students. Students will attend school in person on this date, which was originally scheduled as a staff development day.
The change is necessary due to a weather-related closure on Feb. 3, when schools were closed because of snow and ice across the Upstate. At the time of that closure, District Five had already used the five e-Learning days allowed each year by the South Carolina Department of Education. Because no additional e-Learning days were available, state law requires that the missed instructional day be made up in person.
South Carolina law also requires every school district to designate at least three potential makeup days within its academic calendar each year. March 6 was identified as one of District Five’s designated makeup days when the school calendar was approved and released last year.
All schools will operate on a normal schedule on Friday, March 6, including transportation and meal services.
District Five understands that calendar adjustments can affect family plans and appreciate the flexibility and partnership of parents and staff as they work to ensure students receive the full amount of instructional time required for the school year.
Families with specific questions are encouraged to contact their child’s school directly.
