The Spartanburg County Coroner's Office and the Seventh Circuit Solicitor's Office held a joint press conference to discuss impaired driving prevention over the holidays. Spartanburg County leads the state in highway traffic fatalities, with 50% of statewide traffic fatalities being DUI-related. The Sheriff's Office plans to take a proactive approach to impaired driving this year by directing DUI patrols targeting known DUI hotspots over the holidays. Representatives from MADD also spoke at the event, advocating for stricter DUI laws and for the use of rideshare programs when under the influence.

The Spartanburg Coroner’s Office, along with other Coroner’s Offices in the Upstate, held a conference on safe sleep practices on Monday, Oct. 6. The conference was held during Pregnancy, Infant and Child Loss awareness month. In addition to discussing safe sleep practices for newborns at the conference, the Coroner’s Office released a short video aimed to educate parents on the safest way to put their children to bed.
