Riverside High School has announced the hiring of Patrick Nicholas as its next girls volleyball coach.
Nicholas brings a wealth of experience in volleyball, having played and coached at the college, high school and club level.
“We are excited that he can take our program to the next level,” said Riverside High School athletic director Robbie Hardy.
"Riverside is a diamond in the rough," said Nicholas. "There's so much talent and hard work ethic in the kids here. It's the kind of place that's a coach's dream to get to come in and work here."
Nicholas previously coached at Spartanburg Day School in 2016-17. Since his tenure at Spartanburg Day, he has coached at Catawba College and Brenau University.
In addition, he has coached at numerous colleges and has coached in six NCAA Division 1 Tournaments with George Mason, Ohio State and Lehigh Universities.
Nicholas played volleyball at George Mason University. He has a degree in Parks, Recreation and Leisure Studies from George Mason University.
"We're going to get after it in the gym. We're going to make every minute of training and practice count," said Nicholas. "We'll get after it on defense, have flair on offense, and have a work ethic that can't be beat."
The Riverside High School girls volleyball team has made the playoffs the last five years in a row and won a region championship in 2023.
