Community leaders, partners and supporters gathered at the Historic Greer Depot on Wednesday for a private reception honoring Caroline Robertson, Executive Director of Greer Relief, as she was formally presented with the Order of the Palmetto, South Carolina’s highest civilian honor.
The award, presented on behalf of South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster, recognizes individuals whose lifetime achievements, service, and contributions have made a lasting impact on the state and its communities.
The ceremony included a reception, invocation, a video highlighting Robertson’s journey, reflections from community leaders and colleagues whose lives have been impacted by her work, and the official presentation of the award by Greer Mayor Rick Danner.
Robertson was recognized for her longstanding leadership and commitment to strengthening communities through service, advocacy, and development efforts. Her influence has touched countless individuals and organizations across the region, where she is widely respected for her mentorship, vision, and dedication to positive community impact.
Robertson was nominated for the honor by Yvonne McMains-Thompson, Director of Mission Impact at Greer Relief, whose work alongside Robertson has given her a close view of the leadership, mentorship, and community commitment behind the recognition.
“Caroline’s leadership has never been about recognition — it has always been about people,” said McMains-Thompson. “She has spent years creating opportunities, lifting others up, and investing in the future of this community. The Order of the Palmetto is a fitting recognition of the legacy she continues to build every day.”
