An administrator in Spartanburg District Five Schools was arrested on Monday for failure to report child abuse.

Brian Thompson, the assistant principal at Beech Springs Middle School in Duncan, was charged with Failure to Report Child Abuse/Neglect. Thompson turned himself in to the police on Monday, Dec. 8, and was later released on Dec. 9 after being granted bond.

Officials with the Duncan Police Department say that Thompson was informed of an incident involving two juveniles back in October. Under South Carolina law, Thompson is considered a mandated reporter, and the incident, the department reports, met the threshold for a mandatory report to law enforcement.

Spartanburg District Five Schools officials did not respond immediately to requests for comment on Wednesday.

No details of the incident involving two juveniles have been released at this time. The incident is currently under investigation by the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office. Thompson was granted bond on Monday evening — a personal recognizance bond with the conditions that he has no contact with the victim and attends all future court dates.

This is an active investigation, with Thompson set to return to court in early 2026.
