The arrival of the New Year is always exciting, but the City of Greer has extra cause for celebration this year.

Greer celebrates its sesquicentennial in 2026 — honoring 150 years since the city was chartered on March 25, 1876. The City, alongside the Greer Heritage Museum, has planned a year packed with events honoring the history of the town.

Here’s a look at what to expect throughout the year as Greer celebrates its birthday. Tickets for events can be purchased on the Greer 150 website

“Greer 150 Kick Off” | Jan. 3, 2026, 12-4 p.m.

  • The Greer Heritage Museum will kick off the sesquicentennial year on Jan. 3 with the Greer 150 Kick Off event. Come see new museum exhibits and enjoy snacks and activities. The first 20 guests receive free Greer 150 merchandise, so make plans to get there early!

“150 Years of Love” | Feb. 14, 2026, 10 a.m.

  • Grab your other half and head over to the Greer Museum on Valentine’s Day to learn about the history of love in Greer.

“The Founding of Greer” | March 21, 2026, 1 p.m.

  • The first Greer 150 event in March is also the first Story of Greer event for the year. Join the City and the Greer Heritage Museum at the Historic Greer Depot to learn Greer’s founding story.

“The Sesquicentennial” | March 25, 2026

  • Marking the official day Greer was chartered, the City will host its formal sesquicentennial ceremonies. Location and time for the event have not yet been announced.

“The Big Bash” | March 28, 2026

  • The first Saturday after Greer’s official birthday, come out to downtown Greer for a day of family fun. History programs and reenactors will be on Trade Street all day to educate residents and celebrate all things Greer. The official time for the event will be announced at a later date.

“The Textile Era” | April 25, 2026, 1 p.m.

  • For the second Story of Greer event, come out to Greer Mill for a lesson on the impact of the textile era on the town.

“Greer 150 History Drive” | May 16, 2026, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  • The Greer Heritage Museum invites residents to bring family photos, papers and other artifacts to the museum for a history drive. The team at the museum will make copies of these artifacts for the museum’s records.

“Boom to Bust” | June 13, 2026, 1 p.m.

  • For the third Story of Greer event, come out to the museum to learn about Greer’s economic history.

“U.S. 250 Celebration at Freedom Blast” | June 27, 2026, 6-10 p.m.

  • Greer’s Freedom Blast celebration this year will also honor the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.

“Greer Uncovered” | July 18, 2026, 12-4 p.m.

  • According to the City, many hidden locations across town will open for one day in July. More details are set to come closer to the event.

“Greer 150 Rebirth” | August, 2026

  • For the fourth Story of Greer event, learn about Greer’s journey from recession to success. Location and time for the event are to come at a later date.

“Greer Heritage Museum Birthday” | Sept. 19, 2026, 3 p.m.

  • Come out to the Greer Heritage Museum to celebrate the museum’s 30th birthday.

“Greer Ghost Tours | October, 2026

  • Enjoy the Greer Heritage Museum’s annual Ghost Tours event series this October.

“150 Years of Christmas | December, 2026

  • Bring your friends and family to the museum in December to learn about the history of Christmas in Greer. Official dates and times have not yet been announced.
