At approximately 4:40 p.m., Greer Police Department officers were dispatched to the area of 4th Street and Moore Street in reference to an 18-wheeler that had become stuck on the Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks.
While the commercial vehicle was stuck on the tracks, it was struck by a Norfolk Southern train. The driver of the truck was not inside the vehicle at the time of the collision, and there were no injuries reported during this incident.
Due to the length of the train involved, multiple railroad crossings are impacted. The following crossings are currently affected and closed:
4th Street
S. Line Street
Trade Street
School Street
Able Street
These crossings will remain closed for an undetermined amount of time as crews work to safely remove the commercial vehicle from the tracks and clear the area. Motorists are asked to avoid the area and use alternate routes while this work is ongoing.
