The Greenville County Schools Board of Trustees met for a regular meeting on Tuesday evening, approving rights-of-way for construction projects and extending a lease in Greer.
The first item before the Board was approving the transfer of 1.25 acres of school-owned property to the Greenville Legislative Delegation Transportation Committee. This deeded right-of-way will allow for road improvements on Robertson Road and Belvue Road, in support of the construction of the new Northwest Middle School.
The Board approved the deed unanimously. Upon completion of the road improvements, the Transportation Committee will then deed the right-of-way to the South Carolina Department of Transportation for continued maintenance. According to district officials, this is to remove the District’s liability in the case of an accident or other incident.
The second item before the Board was the approval of a permanent, perpetual right-of-way and easement at Bryson Elementary School for the Piedmont Natural Gas Company. This is to allow for the construction, maintenance and inspection of natural gas pipelines. The gas company will pay $572 for the easement. The Board approved the item unanimously.
Trustees also unanimously approved the extension of a lease agreement with the City of Greer. This allows the city to continue to use the softball, baseball and football fields at Riverside Middle School for city recreation.
The next item before the Board was the approval of the district’s Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) Utilization Plan for fiscal year 2027. This state-required policy emphasizes using minority-owned businesses in project solicitation. Greenville County Schools plans to put $2,356,053 toward its MBE Plan for fiscal year 2027. The Board approved this plan unanimously.
Final actions by the Board included the unanimous approval of two physical education exemptions at Mauldin Middle School and the appointment of board member Scott Cline as the Chair of the Procurement Review Panel.
