The Greer Children’s Theatre has announced its shows for the upcoming year — taking audiences through two productions inspired by DreamWorks Animation films.
The Greer Children’s Theatre is a program run by the Greer Cultural Arts Council. This year, the young actors will take the stage in “Trolls the Musical, Jr.” in the fall and “How to Train Your Dragon the Musical, Jr.” in the spring.
“‘Trolls’ is going to be very colorful, sparkly and a lot of fun,” said Robin Byouk, cultural arts supervisor with the City of Greer. “And of course, ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ is a classic, so we’re really excited to put that on.”
The cast list for “Trolls the Musical, Jr.” has already been set, with more than half of the cast being new to the Greer Children’s Theatre. The production, created in May 2026, follows a new storyline separate from the film franchise.
“The play that we’re doing is actually not the movie — it’s the story that happens after the movie ends,” Byouk said. “That’s the way the screenplay was written. So for the audience, it will be like a new chapter in the story.”
Byouk says the show will be especially appealing to younger audiences. Showings will be held at the Cannon Centre in Greer from Nov. 6-8 and Nov. 13-15.
Auditions for “How to Train Your Dragon the Musical, Jr.” are scheduled for October. The production was created in April 2026 and will feature extensive puppetry to bring the dragons and other elements of the story to life.
“We're just really excited to start building some puppets,” Byouk said. “We have done a lot of puppets over the years, but this is going to be a lot of them.”
Showings of “How to Train Your Dragon the Musical, Jr.” will be held at the Cannon Centre in Greer from April 9-11 and April 16-18, 2027. For audition announcements, follow the Greer Cultural Arts Council’s Facebook page.
