Greer City Council met for a regular meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 27, voting to approve multiple items of old and new business.

In old business, Council heard several items related to annexation. Ordinance 35-2026 annexes a 10-foot strip of land located at 213 Vaughn Road into the city with a zoning of Suburban Neighborhood. This ordinance is related to Ordinance 36-2026, which annexes 34.15 acres on Westmoreland Road into the city with a zoning of Suburban Neighborhood.

The properties are located across the street from one another. According to the applicant, the intent with the 34-acre plot is to construct a residential subdivision with around 60 units. The applicant is seeking to annex the 10-foot strip across the road to ensure continuity between two parcels.

Council approved both ordinances on second reading with a vote of 5-1. Council member Charles Lander voted in opposition to both ordinances, and council member Jay Arrowood was absent.

Another annexation item was Ordinance 37-2026, which annexes 43.09 acres owned by the Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport into the city with a zoning of Manufacturing and Logistics. Council approved the item unanimously on second reading.

Council then heard two items related to zoning classification changes for their final readings. Ordinance 38-2026 changes the zoning classification of 0.65 acres on South Main Street from Commercial General to Medium Density Residential. The intent of the property is to build townhomes. Council approved the ordinance unanimously on second reading.

The next item was Ordinance 39-2026, which changes the zoning of 0.21 acres located on Pine Street from Suburban Neighborhood to Traditional Neighborhood. Council approved the ordinance unanimously on second reading.

The final item of old business before Council was the second reading of Ordinance 41-2026. This ordinance aims to amend the city’s Unified Development Ordinance, a standard process that occurs throughout the year. Some amendments include updated language and design requirements. Council approved the ordinance unanimously.

Council then had one item of new business to consider. Ordinance 43-2026 aims to change the zoning classification of 0.25 acres on Albert Street from Suburban Neighborhood to Traditional Neighborhood. The intent is to allow for narrower side and rear setbacks. Council approved the ordinance to move forward to second reading unanimously.
