The Greer City Council moved to accept the city’s HUD fund allocation for the 2026 program year at its regular meeting on Tuesday night.

Resolution 06-2026 approves the allocation of Greenville County Community Development Block Grants and Home Funds for the year. These funds are allocated to municipalities by the Greenville County Redevelopment Authority and are designed to establish affordable housing and meet urgent needs for low-to-moderate-income residents.

The City of Greer will have an estimated $288,057 of funding to use throughout the 2026 project year. Council unanimously approved the resolution.

Other items on Council’s agenda included the second reading of Ordinance 06-2026, which aims to change the zoning classification for three parcels located on Pleasant Drive and S Buncombe Road. The applicant, TMC Development, plans to build a single-family detached subdivision on the 26 acres featuring 72 residential lots.

The Planning Commission unanimously recommended approval of the rezone, and Council approved it with a vote of 6-1. Council member Charles Lander voted in opposition.

Council also voted to award the detention center roofing replacement project to IES Coatings Inc. The project will cost the city $107,130 and will be distributed from the general fund. IES Coatings is a Greenville-based company and had the lowest quoted price.

Five additional items of new business came to Council on Tuesday, including two annexation requests and three easement requests. All five items were unanimously approved to move forward by Council and will be heard for a second time before final approval.

The first item, Ordinance Number 7-2026, would provide for the annexation of .843 acres on Windsor Road. The requested zoning classification is Suburban Neighborhood, and the intent is to build one single-family home.

The second item, Ordinance Number 8-2026, would provide for the annexation of .868 acres on W. Wade Hampton Boulevard near Suber Road. This property would be zoned as a commercial corridor with the intent to build a commercial building. The City Planning Commission will host public forums for both of these annexations on Monday, April 13, 2026.

The remaining three ordinances all deal with easements related to the City Sports & Events Center, which is currently under construction. Ordinance Number 9-2026 and Ordinance Number 11-2026 request utility easements for the Greer Commission of Public Works to support the installation of sanitary sewer services and domestic water service at the site. Ordinance Number 10-2026 requests a utility easement for Duke Energy for the installation of permanent electrical service.

Finally, Mayor Rick Danner issued a proclamation declaring April Child Abuse Prevention Month in Greer. Representatives with Greer Relief were awarded the proclamation for their commitment to preventing child abuse in the community through their programs.
