At its Tuesday night meeting, Greer City Council considered updates to both the city’s business licensing system and its comprehensive plan.

The first ordinance heard, Ordinance Number 25-2025, aims to amend the business license ordinance of the city. This amendment updates the business license class schedule, which slightly changes licensing fees.

According to officials with the city’s business license department, the updated fees should be minimal, and some business owners may even see their fees decrease. Business license rates are viewable on the business license department’s website.

The other ordinance, Ordinance 29-2025, aims to update Greer’s comprehensive plan, as part of a five-year updating cycle. Municipal governments are required to update these plans regularly per the South Carolina Local Government Comprehensive Planning Act of 1994.

A public hearing for the comprehensive plan five-year update was held at Tuesday night’s meeting, but there were no speakers signed up.

In addition to these ordinances, Council had its second and final reading of two zoning ordinances. The first changes property located at 300 Bennett Center Dr. from office professional to medium density. The second changes property located at 205 W. Arlington Ave. from suburban neighborhood to traditional neighborhood.
