Greer CPW is alerting customers to a reported scam. Salespeople are going door-to-door, claiming to represent CPW’s net metering program, attempting to schedule solar appointments with energy technicians.
According to officials with Greer CPW, these individuals do not work for the company. They are likely using county tax and GIS information to identify customers by name as a sales tactic.
“We want to remind customers to be cautious of any door-to-door salespeople as this is not something we do,” Greer CPW said in a statement. “Any of our contractors will be in clearly marked vehicles and will carry badges from their respective companies.”
Additionally, Greer CPW says it would not typically knock on residents’ doors unless there is an emergency. In most cases, customers receive an automated phone call.
“We understand that solar panels have become increasingly popular. However, we strongly encourage customers to do their research, obtain at least three quotes, check with your home insurance provider about any additional considerations and confirm any tax credits or incentives meet expectations,” the statement said.
If a salesperson knocks on your door, Greer CPW invites residents to contact them to verify employment status at 864-848-5500.
