The City of Greer’s third annual Día de los Muertos festival will soon take over the Center for the Arts, providing entertainment, education and more.

Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a Mexican holiday honoring friends and family who have died. The City of Greer’s Cultural Arts Division puts on a free festival each year in celebration of the holiday, with this year’s event set for Friday, Oct. 30, from noon to 10 p.m. at the Center for the Arts (804 Trade St.).

“It’s a very reverent holiday where you remember the souls of your loved ones who have passed,” said Robin Byouk, cultural arts supervisor for the City of Greer. “I’ve always loved this event because artistically it’s just beautiful, and I could not have done it without my Hispanic partners making sure that we keep it as traditional as possible.”

The festival will feature a variety of dance and music performances, an artisan market, monarch butterfly stilt walkers and salsa lessons. Outside the center, an outdoor screening of Pixar’s “Coco” will begin at 7 p.m.
