A 49-year-old Greer woman has been charged with insurance fraud and two counts of forgery following an investigation by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED).
Trevon Rena Dawson was arrested Friday, October 16, and charged with presenting a false claim for insurance payment valued between $2,000 and $10,000, forgery involving less than $10,000 and forgery involving no dollar amount.
According to arrest warrants, Dawson allegedly submitted fraudulent insurance documents to ReliaStar Life Insurance Company, also known as Voya, on or about July 15, 2025, in Spartanburg County.
Investigators allege Dawson submitted an accident claim on behalf of another individual, falsely claiming the person sustained injuries in a collision that required hospitalization.
According to investigators, Dawson admitted during a voluntary statement that the claim was fictitious and that the supporting documents had been altered.
A separate warrant alleges Dawson submitted an altered medical summary to support accident and hospital confinement claims. The documents indicated hospitalization dates and predetermined policy benefits totaling approximately $8,140, including $3,400 under hospital confinement coverage.
Investigators said Voya paid $3,400 under the hospital confinement coverage but denied the accident claim.
The investigation was conducted by SLED at the request of the South Carolina Department of Insurance.
Dawson was booked into the Spartanburg County Detention Center. The South Carolina Department of Insurance will prosecute the case.
