Greg Wood has won the Lyman Town Council special election, beating opponent Rick Hellams 151-116.

Tuesday’s special election was set following the Nov. 4 General Election, when then-council member David Petty was elected to the mayoral seat. Petty’s term had not expired, meaning that an election had to be scheduled to fill the vacancy.

“I appreciate everyone who trusted me with [their] vote,” Wood said. “I look forward to working with Mayor Petty and the other council members to serve our entire town as we face the exciting and challenging times ahead.”

Polls were open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 10. Results were posted shortly after 7 p.m. at all three polling locations, which included the Lyman Activity Center at Pacific Place, D.R. Hill Middle School and Duncan United Methodist Church.

Here’s a breakdown of the votes by polling location

Lyman Activity Center:

  • Rick Hellams: 108

  • Greg Wood: 139

D.R. Hill Middle School:

  • Rick Hellams: 3

  • Greg Wood: 11

Duncan United Methodist Church:

  • Rick Hellams: 5

  • Greg Wood: 1

Greg Wood took the election with 56.55% of the vote. He will assume office at the next Lyman Town Council meeting in March. To read about his campaign, see GreerNews’ “Meet the Candidates” report.
