The Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport (GSP) is continuing its Runway Rehabilitation Project with a full airport closure this weekend, Sept. 11-13.
The airport plans to repave 6,500 feet of Runway 4/22 and completely repave the runway’s shoulders by the end of the year. Phase One of the project recently concluded, clearing the way for the next stage of work.
The Sept. 11-13 closure will be the first of two weekend closures, with the second scheduled for Sept. 18-20. Both closures will begin at 8 p.m. on Friday and end at 8 a.m. on Monday. Passengers will not be able to schedule flights in or out of GSP for the duration of the closures.
Since Runway 4/22 is the only runway at GSP, complete airport closures are unavoidable when the runway is down. Airport officials said they analyzed travel patterns to determine the dates and times that would cause the least disruption to operations.
Here’s a look at the rest of the project schedule:
Phase Two: Sept. 11-13 and Sept. 18-20
Two full weekend closures. Both weekend closures will begin at 8 p.m. on Friday and end at 8 a.m. on Monday.
Phase Three: Sept. 14 – Nov. 12
Three months of overnight work, with runway closures from 11:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.
