Lowes Foods of Lyman celebrated its grand opening Thursday morning, bringing another grocery option to the town.
The new Lowes Foods is located at 12189 W Greenville Hwy in Lyman. The Carolina-based grocer occupies the former KJ’s Market location, which closed earlier this year.
“The community is thrilled to have a grocery store of this caliber here in town,” said Lyman Mayor David Petty. “I think we’ve been needing a grocery store like this for a while, so we’re just so happy that they're finally open.”
Officials with Lowes Foods say the opening builds on the company’s existing presence in the community.
“We've been in the Lyman community with our wholesale division and our KJ's division for quite some time,” said Tim Lowe, Lowes Foods President. “ So we went out and talked to the folks here in the Lyman area and asked what they wanted from a grocery store. And we heard loud and clear that Lowes Foods would resonate, so we're excited to be in the community.”
The store itself has several nods to local geography. Most notable references to Lyman include the Lyman Deli section and the register lanes named after iconic town streets. These street names were chosen by the community and include Ridge Road, Lawrence Street, Groce Road, Holly Springs Road and Jordan Road.
