3 GENERATIONS OF HANNONS. 3 GREER FOOTBALL STARS.
And all three Shrine Bowl selections — the first three-generation Shrine Bowl family in SC history.
Keith Hannon (Greer football Class of 1969), Chad Hannon (Greer football Class of 1989), and Noah Hannon (Greer football Class of 2016) all received Shrine Bowl invitations as seniors.
Noah finished the trifecta in 2016, when the future App State standout was given the Shrine Bowl nod as a senior — on top of a nomination for that year’s Mr. Football.
Keith, Noah’s grandfather and Chad’s father, was the first Hannon to be selected to the prestigious game for the state’s top seniors.
Chad was selected to the Shrine Bowl himself in 1989, although he didn’t end up being able to play, as Hurricane Hugo delayed the season, causing Greer’s AAA state championship win to overlap with the Shrine Bowl.
Football has been in the Hannon family for nearly a century, and all three former Greer Shrine Bowl selections went on to play college football — Keith at Gardner-Webb, Chad at East Carolina, Noah at App State. Additionally, Noah’s cousin, Reese Hannon, was a Shrine Bowl selection from Greer and standout QB at Furman.
The Hannons have been pillars of Greer High football and Greer-area football in general. In particular, Chad has helped spearhead the Greer-Area Touchdown Club for seven years — a weekly fall gathering to celebrate, uplift and motivate local football players.
Noah is a regular speaker at those TD Club meetings as well, speaking life to young athletes sitting where he once sat 10 short years ago.
The Hannon family extends many branches and is one of the root families of Greer. The Hannons have been vital to the heartbeat of Greer football and the community for generations, and they continue to speak life and shine light on area football athletes to this day.
3 days until high school football is back.
