The Town of Lyman recently memorialized one of its longtime mail carriers with a custom blessing box constructed near Town Hall.
The Karen Watson Memorial Blessing Box is located at the back of the Lyman Town Hall parking lot, adjacent to Allison Park. Community members can leave or take unopened, nonperishable food or essential items from the box at any time.
Watson delivered mail in Lyman for many years before her death in 2025. Town officials said the blessing box was commissioned to honor her generous spirit and willingness to help others.
“Karen brought joy and kindness to so many people throughout Lyman, and after her tragic passing last year, we saw how deeply her loss was felt across the community,” said Lyman Mayor David Petty. “She always referred to the residents along her route as ‘all her people,’ which says so much about the way she cared for them.”
The blessing box was custom-made by Kevin Roux of Rouxdimentary Woodworking, featuring an inscription honoring Watson and a map of her postal route. Six of her relatives also had their handprints engraved on the box. Those relatives were the first to place donations inside the blessing box at a ceremony held on Aug. 1.
