After more than 30 years of service, Startex-Jackson-Wellford-Duncan Water District (SJWD) has removed an aging water tank originally built in 1990, marking the end of one chapter and the beginning of another as part of the district’s long-term infrastructure improvements and master planning efforts.
The original 500,000-gallon tank was located along Apple Valley Road, off Highway 101, and served the District’s Reidville Pressure Zone for more than three decades. Its removal marks a significant milestone in a major system improvement project designed to increase water storage capacity and strengthen long-term service reliability for SJWD customers.
The new 1.5 million-gallon elevated composite tank, completed in 2026, triples the available storage capacity in the Reidville Pressure Zone. This expanded capacity reflects SJWD’s proactive approach to meeting the needs of a growing population and rising water demand in the area.
By replacing the older structure with a larger, modern tank, SJWD is helping ensure the continued delivery of safe, reliable, and high-quality water service for current customers while preparing for future growth.
