With Legion baseball playoffs on the horizon, the Greer Post 115 is coming together.
Greer’s legion baseball team, the Warhawks, finished the regular season in second place in the Foothills Region. Greer began the season with a run of four straight losses before rebounding nicely, finishing the season 10-9 overall and 7-5 in region play.
In that span, Greer went on a six-game winning streak by sweeping two region opponents, Buffalo and Inman, to gain momentum heading into the postseason.
“As a team, we’ve been hitting the ball really well lately,” said head coach Kevin Donahoo, currently in his second season. “All of our approaches at the plate have been really good. When we’re hitting the ball like this, it makes you really confident. I look forward to seeing where it takes us.”
“I feel like at the beginning of the season, we were struggling a bit earlier in games,” said first baseman and leadoff hitter Stone Howard. “Our intensity wasn’t really where it needed to be at the start of games. We’ve picked up the intensity from the start, and now, it’s really paying dividends.”
Now, the Warhawks await a familiar foe in the first round of the playoffs: Easley Post 52. The Warhawks took both regular-season matchups over Easley — a 6-5 win on June 4 and an 8-7 win on July 7.
Game one of the series will take place on July 15 at Alice Mills Park in Easley. Game two will be at Stevens Field in Greer on July 16, and if necessary, game three will take place at Alice Mills Park on July 17.
