Spartanburg County’s Sustainability and Recycling Division will host a Cooking Oil Recycling Event on Thursday, Nov. 6, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Valley Falls Drop-Off Center.
The event was held in recognition of America Recycles Day, an annual national effort. The free, public event will highlight the importance of properly recycling used cooking oil in time for the busy holiday cooking season.
Used cooking oil should always be recycled rather than poured down drains or thrown away. Proper disposal prevents clogs and costly damage to home plumbing and municipal wastewater systems. Collected oil is converted into biofuel, creating an eco-friendly energy source and contributing to a more sustainable, circular economy.
“Recycling used cooking oil is a simple step that protects our environment, our homes, and our local infrastructure,” said Allison Brockman, Spartanburg County's Sustainability and Recycling Program Manager. “This event is an opportunity to raise awareness while offering residents a fun and educational experience.”
Attendees can enjoy live demonstrations, free turkey samples, and hands-on learning about sustainability and responsible recycling practices. The event also offers residents a chance to connect with local environmental advocates and discover practical ways to reduce household waste.
The event is hosted by Spartanburg County’s Sustainability and Recycling Division in partnership with Green Energy Biofuel, Keep OneSpartanburg Beautiful and the Spartanburg Fire Department, with support from local government and community organizations promoting environmental stewardship.
