Greer High School has hired Reza Ghasemi as new head girls soccer coach.
Ghasemi brings a wealth of soccer experience from all levels to Greer High School. He was officially introduced to the players on Thursday afternoon.
"I'm ready to get started and to build up this program with these players," said Ghasemi. "I'm excited. I believe with the experience and knowledge I bring and the talented girls on this team, we can build this to become one of the best soccer programs in the state."
Ghasemi's coaching journey began at Normal Community West High School in Illinois where he transformed the school's girls soccer program into one of the top teams in Illinois, earning national recognition in 2007.
Ghasemi has contributed to the success multiple collegiate programs. As an assistant in charge of tactics at Illinois Wesleyan and Spartanburg Methodist College, Ghasemi helped guide both programs to the deepest playoff runs in their respective school histories.
While serving as head coach of both the girls and boys programs at Bloomington Central Catholic High School, Ghasemi led the boys to the Illinois State Tournament for the first time in school history, finishing third in the state in 2021, while the girls consistently reached sectional championships.
Ghasemi's most recent role was as an assistant coach at Spartanburg High School.
"This is an opportunity for these young ladies to build something and to make history," said Ghasemi. "At the end of the day, you can look back and say 'Yeah, I played soccer,' or you can look back and say, 'I was a part of something bigger than myself. I was a part of making history.'
"It could be the trophies they pick up, it could be the records they set. What I know is I'll be there for them in every level: training, games, help with school. Whatever they need, I'll be there to help them."
