Deputies with the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office arrested two individuals following a shooting in Spartanburg County.

According to a report provided by the department, on Oct. 3, just before midnight, deputies responded to a reported shooting at 115 Blue Gill Way in the Woodruff community of Spartanburg County. Upon arrival, deputies located 21-year-old Aaliyah Simmons suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Despite life-saving efforts, Simmons succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

Following a thorough investigation, which the Sheriff’s Office says included interviews with multiple witnesses and suspects, deputies have charged two individuals in connection with the incident:

  • Angel Marie Willis, 19, has been charged with Murder.

  • Jorge Armando Cano Jr., 24, has been charged with Accessory After the Fact.

According to the report, investigators determined that Willis and Cano arrived at the residence with the intent to engage in a physical altercation with one of Simmons’ friends. During the altercation, Willis fatally shot Simmons.

Both suspects were taken into custody on the morning of Oct. 4 and are currently being held at the Spartanburg County Detention Facility. While charges have been filed, the Sheriff’s Office says that this case remains an active investigation.
