Spartanburg County is reaffirming its commitment to making roadways safer for everyone and encouraging residents to take an active role in preventing serious and fatal crashes.

The county led the state once again in traffic fatalities in 2025, with a total of 74 deaths and they are committed to reducing—with a vision to eliminate—severe and fatal traffic-related injuries, because one life lost on the county’s roadways is one too many.

With Super Bowl LX taking place on Feb. 8 and many people traveling or attending gatherings to watch the game, Spartanburg County underscores the importance of planning ahead, making responsible choices and prioritizing safe driving during a weekend when traffic and celebrations often increase.

To support this mission, the county has launched a new, public-facing Vision Zero Dashboard—an interactive online experience that gives residents, media and stakeholders a clearer look at roadway safety information, crash trends and improvement efforts across the county.

This user-friendly, map-based dashboard is designed to improve transparency, increase community awareness and support safer travel by helping the public better understand and prevent roadway hazards across Spartanburg County.

“Every fatal crash leaves a permanent impact on families and on the first responders who arrive on scene,” said Sheriff Bill Rhyne. “Traffic safety is not just enforcement—it’s prevention. We’re proud to support Spartanburg County’s Vision Zero efforts and encourage everyone to slow down, buckle up, stay focused and never drive impaired.”

Residents, community groups and local leaders can use the dashboard to view crash data, explore safety hotspots, identify trends and support data-informed decisions to improve transportation safety.

By increasing public access to safety information, Spartanburg County is taking another step toward strengthening the community’s collective ability to improve safety for all who travel throughout the county.

“This is about saving lives and it’s going to take all of us,” Travis Brown, director of public works for Spartanburg County, said. “We’re proud to have the support of our local law enforcement partners who see firsthand the devastating impacts of serious crashes and are committed to prevention through enforcement, education and community awareness.”
