A pedestrian in the roadway died on Monday morning after being struck by a vehicle around 6:30am, according to SC Highway Patrol (SCHP) Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway.

The incident occurred on Wade Hampton Blvd. near Reid School Rd.

According to Ridgeway, a 2011 Ford Escape was traveling south on Wade Hampton Blvd. and struck the pedestrian. The Greenville County Coroner's Office said the victim was hit while trying to cross Wade Hampton Blvd. 

The driver of the vehicle was not injured. The pedestrian passed away at the scene, said Ridgeway.

The Greenville County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Melvin Joseph Levesque, 70, of Greenville.

This incident is under investigation by the SCHP.
