Jim was born in Spartanburg, SC on March 19, 1959 to parents Bill and Doyle Cheek.
Jim passed peacefully at home on June 18, 2026. He passed from complications due to injuries sustained in a car wreck in 2022. This accident took away life as he knew it and he struggled for four years.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Suzanne C. Feger and Mary Lynn C. Smith.
He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where in previous years he had served as a Sunday School teacher, a deacon, and on many committees. He was also a member of “The Men of Faith” gospel group.
Jim was a member of Spartan Lodge #70.
Jim spent many years as a lumber broker and then became a service technician/sales person for Clean Burn Waste Oil Furnaces. Later he joined the sales team at Clean Energy Heating Systems where he was one of the top producers. In 2018 he purchased Diversified Recycling which processes used oil for asphalt and sand plants.
Jim never met a stranger. He loved to talk and enjoyed meeting new people. Jim was fun, he lived life with joy, laughter and a positive attitude.
Jim’s greatest joy was his family. His boys were the center of his world. He is survived by his wife, 2 sons, their spouses and 5 grandchildren.
He and his wife, Nancy Flora Cheek, were married 46 years as of June 7.
