Joel “Tommy” Thomas Stone, 75, passed away on August 8, 2026. Tommy was the son of the late Horace “H.B.” and Fleeta Covington Stone and the loving husband of 44 years to Doris Stone.
Tommy was born in Hamlet, North Carolina and was a proud graduate of Hamlet High School. He graduated from the University of North Carolina Pembrook with a bachelors in biology and dedicated 45 years of his life to the automotive industry. Tommy served as a manager at various locations throughout his career and he eventually retired from Battery Source in Albany, Georgia. Tommy was of the Christian faith and enjoyed lay ministry where he found great meaning in sharing his faith and helping those around him. He leaves behind cherished memories that will remain in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Thomas Stone; sister, Emilie Barnette (Andy), sister-in-law, Donna Barger (Don); nieces and nephews, Courtney Barnette (Jennie), Andrea Barnette, LeAnn Thomas (Jake), Matthew Barger, and Lauren Funderburk (Gunnar); great nieces and nephews, Ethan Barnette, Drew Barnette, and Jensen Thomas; as well as his mother-in-law, Mary Neil Wilson.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his father-in-law Lonnie Wilson.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Aug. 12 at Living Waters Funeral Home & Crematory; 529 Spartanburg Hwy S. Lyman, SC 29365.
