Steven Douglas (Doug) Tucker (88) of Greer passed away peacefully on August 7, 2026, at NHC-Greenville after a period of declining health.
Born in Spartanburg, South Carolina, he was a son of the late William Madison and Grace Douglas Tucker. Doug graduated from Spartanburg High School and Clemson College (aka Clemson University).
Upon graduation from high school, Doug enlisted in the United States Navy, where he proudly served aboard the USS John Hood. During his service, he also received training as a draftsman. After discharge from the Navy, he earned his bachelor’s degree in Textile Management and was proud to be in one of the last graduating classes of Clemson College in 1964 before it became Clemson University. He always stayed a staunch Clemson supporter.
Doug enjoyed a long career in the textile industry. He was first employed by J.P. Stevens Co. and worked for a couple of other textile companies before being hired by the Ralph E. Loper Company in Greenville as a textile management consultant. In the mid-1980s, he, along with four other colleagues formed The Loper Company, Inc. where he provided textile consulting services to companies throughout the southeast until his retirement.
He is survived by a daughter, Julia T. Goldsmith (Mark) of Hendersonville, North Carolina; a son, Steven D. Tucker, Jr. of Greer; three grandchildren, Jacob A. Lea (Caitlin) of Albemarle, North Carolina, Brandon J. Goldsmith of Spartanburg and Elizabeth Nichole Hatler of Greenville; and three great-grandchildren, Evelyn Hatler, Bella Hatler and Alexander Hart of Greenville. He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Max I. Moser III (Cindy) of Cowpens.
He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth Moser Tucker, and a brother, William M. Tucker, Jr. of Greensboro, North Carolina.
A cryptside service will be held at 11 a.m. Aug. 11 at Hillcrest Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Greer conducted by Mr. James L. Goldsmith, Jr.
Visitation will follow after the service.
