The first GreerNews.com Sports Awards will be held on May 14th at Turner Chapel, North Greenville University. The event will recognize high school athletes and teams from six schools in the area, with over 30 awards to be presented. Three nominees for each award will be invited to the event, which will be an ESPYs-style red carpet event. The awards include Male Athlete of the Year, Female Athlete of the Year, Team of the Year, Scholar Athlete of the Year, and Best Performance of the Year, among others.
The James F. Byrnes High School Rebel Regiment marching band has been selected to perform in the 2026 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City — the 100th edition of the event. The Rebel Regiment was one of 10 marching bands selected. This will be the band’s fourth time performing at the parade since 1983.
The Spartanburg District Five Board of Trustees held their first regular meeting of the school year on Aug. 25, where they discussed departmental updates and voted on the Minority Business Enterprise Plan for the 2025-2026 school year. The Board also heard a presentation on the selected architects for the system's construction projects.
