The James F. Byrnes High School Rebel Regiment marching band has been selected to perform in the 2026 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City — the 100th edition of the event. The Rebel Regiment was one of 10 marching bands selected. This will be the band’s fourth time performing at the parade since 1983.

The Spartanburg District Five Board of Trustees held their first regular meeting of the school year on Aug. 25, where they discussed departmental updates and voted on the Minority Business Enterprise Plan for the 2025-2026 school year. The Board also heard a presentation on the selected architects for the system's construction projects.

Greenville County Schools and Spartanburg Districts 1-7 began their new school year on Aug. 11, with many schools experiencing increased enrollment and construction projects. Principals from various schools in the area expressed their excitement for the new year and their goals for academic growth and creating a positive learning environment for their students.
