27 TIMES Quez Nesbitt touched the ball that night. But the last, most important touch of the game went to Greer’s young sophomore kicker.

Four touchdowns. An incredible, record-setting 356 rushing yards for Nesbitt.

On that chilly, rainy evening at Dooley Field — in round two of the 2013 Class AAA playoffs vs. Westwood — Greer needed every last one of those yards.

Nesbitt, a senior, did that night what he’d done at Greer his whole career. He juked and broke ankles and stopped on dimes all evening long, leaving Westwood defenders in the dust.

It had been seven years since Greer made it past the second round of the playoffs. Nesbitt — who had already obliterated the school records for career rushing yards and TDs — made sure to do his part in breaking that drought.

His 356-yard, four-TD performance nearly got Greer to the finish line. But with the score tied at 42, Greer’s ball at the Westwood 20, his time was up. He’d taken the Jackets as far as he could.

With just two seconds to go, the ball was taken out of Nesbitt’s hands — and placed onto the right leg of sophomore kicker Nick Roberson.

In the pouring rain, Roberson set his plant leg at the 27 and launched the game-winning kick through the uprights just before time expired.

For the first time since 2006, Greer made it to the 3rd round of the playoffs.

Nesbitt graduated later that year. Roberson departed in 2016.

Both men were heroes on a night that catapulted Greer back into the elites of SC HS football for years to come. And after they graduated? Both men came back home.

Nesbitt came back to coach the RBs for Greer football.

Roberson was hired in 2021 as the school’s soccer coach, quickly becoming the most successful coach in program history. Roberson guided Greer to back-to-back region titles for the first time ever in 2025-2026.

On that cold, rainy night in 2013 At Dooley Field, Roberson wrote the first chapter into his legacy as a Greer player. Nesbitt added his last — and arguably, his most spectacular — chapter to a record-setting career.

27 days until high school football is back.
