32 YEARS AGO, Greer High football capped off an unbeaten season by winning the 1994 State Championship — 22-7 over Manning.

That Greer team was one of the best defensive teams in the history of the state. The Yellow Jackets were anchored on defense by players like Marko Jones, Knox White, Darian Rapley, Jerome Rogers, Lee Dumas, Michael Jones, John Scott and others. Greer allowed just 53 points that season. Just 3.5 points per game.

On offense, the Jackets were anchored by a pair of Shrine Bowl stars in RB Lejerik Cannon and WR Derrick Bruton. Add Lamont Williams into that RB room and Carlos Moss into the WR group, along with future Furman standout Justin Hill at QB, and Greer’s potent offense produced 433 points.

This was the legendary Stuart Holcombe’s second state title as Greer head coach, and the third state title in Greer football history.

32 days until high school football is back.
