Tug-of-war between offensive/defensive lines from different schools is one of several events offered at the Hawg-Tuff Lineman Challenge.

On June 25, Blue Ridge High School hosted the annual Hawg-Tuff Lineman Challenge for the sixth year at the school.

The Hawg-Tuff Lineman Challenge, inspired by legendary SC high-school football coach, Mike Pope, pits 10-12 offensive/defensive line units from different Upstate schools against one another in strength and lifting challenges. Those challenges range from tire flipping to the bull pull to tug-of-war.

"We never really have to advertise this one," said Blue Ridge head coach John Boggs. "Usually teams are just excited to come back out here year after year and put in some good work for the big guys. Lot of good teams and good folks here."

Blue Ridge rising senior Dylan Duty, who's expected to be one of the top lineman in the region and Upstate in his final year, said he loves having a day solely for the (literal) big men on campus.

"I've been a part of this event for four years now, and I love it," said Duty. "It's an opportunity for us bigger guys to get in some reps, and I've made some really good friends here over the years from different schools.

"With the 12 different events we have here, you just get after it the best you can."

Dorman's offensive line came in first overall as a team in the Hawg-Tuff Lineman Challenge, followed by Boiling Springs and St. Joseph's. Blue Ridge finished in fourth place out of 12 teams.

"It's the best of the best out here," said Boggs. "And you hope it helps your guys build confidence while also showing areas of improvement. You're lining up against some of the best lines in the state, and you hope that it shows your guys you can compete against anyone."
