This week, Byrnes played host to the 21st-annual Runnin' Rebels Youth Basketball Camp.

The camp, which was open for elementary and middle schoolers going into grades 1-7, took place from July 13-15. Schofield Gymnasium on the campus of Byrnes High School and the Duncan Elementary gym both were used, as the total number of campers exceeded 100.

"This is the 21st year we've put on the camp," said Byrnes boys head basketball coach Layne Fowler. "It's been an amazing privilege."

Youth campers had the opportunity to learn from current players on the Byrnes boys and girls basketball teams, and campers concluded the week with a trip to Shipwreck Cove in Duncan to play at the water park.

"Our boys and girls players do a phenomenal job teaching and building relationships with the campers, and we love to see it," said Fowler.

"I love seeing the kids having fun playing basketball, but honestly, I absolutely love seeing that girl or boy get their fire ignited to play hoops. You can honestly see it in their eyes when it happens."
